Escape

The band did not make it to semi finals. They did have snow today, which is a lot of fun for a bunch of Florida kids! 

They went to the mall, had time for homework, and went to the stadium to watch finals. Hopefully they had a very good day.

We watched the Ohio State football game, I did school work, we went to the Green and had dinner and then we did an escape room. It was super fun and not a little frustrating. 

 

In other news I have a lot to learn. I spend hours and hours every day on school but I need to up my quality of work. I learned that we are only allowed two C’s or we are dropped from the program. Also today I got my first paper back and I got an 89%, which is okay BUT I also got an academic misconduct report. So plagiarism. The stated issue was that I forgot the quotation marks on my quotes and only cited them in the body and in the footnotes.  

I was shocked. Not that I forgot something. Or that my writing needs work. I know I have a steep learning curve, but that I got written up for it. I feel like a conversation would have been better. 

The result was no action taken, and that it was accidental but it was still very upsetting. 

I’m going to have to really pay attention to the format and use the writing center for help so this never happens again! (And also I thought it was a little unfair)

Friday

It’s cold in Indiana. The band had a free day to play at Dave and Busters and to watch more of the preliminaries. Sadly they didn’t make it to semis although they did so well. The competition also did very very well. 

Abba, Rob and Bub went to play Top Golf. 

Nana, UB and I hung out at his house, went to Cheddars for lunch and then we all met up for some mall fun. 

I’m very happy news I finished my Stats class!!! I have one more assignment to be graded but right now I am have B so 🤞and I think no matter what I’ll have passed!

I’m thrilled!

I spend a minimum of 6 hours a day on school work. It’s been really great except when I’m around the family then it’s hard to squeeze it in! I’m busier than I really realized. 

 

Grand Nats!

Today we headed to Indiana for band. They did amazing!! I don’t know if they’ll make semis but I sure hope so!

We are at Shapiro Deli, it was very delicious. I had the best Rueben sandwich of my life, also tasty borscht. So good!

Becky and Harriett met us in the parking lot for a little visit after. I hadn’t seen them in years and it was fun to catch up a little. Maybe next time we will have a longer visit.

 

Travel

Grace stayed up all night getting ready. Don’t ask me why. I tried to go to bed and luckily I am pretty good at sleeping thru noises that I know are going to be there but it’s never 100% restful until everyone is tucked in and the house is dark and quiet. 

Anyway at 2 we left to take her to  Blakes, where the two of them were going meet to drive to school together. And she forgot her beanie so we had to go back & then back again. When I got home I lay in bed waiting for the alarm at 3.

Bub and I were supposed to have a short travel day. However the airport was a zoo. Literally I have never seen anything like it. Even though we arrived at 4:30 for our 6:30 flight it was 7:15 before we made it to the gate. Miraculously our flight hadn’t left! They were having mechanical difficulties. I think the airport was so crazy because they were closing at 4 for the hurricane and everyone was trying to get out. Anyway we got on the plane, then a while later we got off the plane. We had to wait for another plane. Listen. If there is any place you want a problem to be discovered it is on the ground. I was not at all mad. It is super inconvenient but what are you going to do?

Finally we made it to BWI, having missed our connection, but having been rebooked on a flight that was only 5 hours later. I did school. Ethan sat. We ate lunch and took a walk and eventually flew to Ohio. 
 

You know who had an even longer travel day? These two and 150 of their closest band friends. It’s 10:30pm and as of now they are not in Indianapolis yet. 

A birthday, a hurricane and some bus bags

Tonight E and I went to the temple together. It was pouring rain because another hurricane is incoming. Despite the storms it was peaceful and quiet. 

Tomorrow we all leave for Indiana. I made bus bags for the clarinets. 

Yesterday we celebrated Maverick’s 2nd birthday at MK! He was so cute! 

 

Weekend

The Johnsons and Sierra went home yesterday. :(

This is fun, Hannah got to meet Elder Morrison. 

We had a welcome home open house tonight for Ethan. It was so nice, lots of our friend came and it was wonderful to see everyone. 

Yesterday we had dinner with Tom and Diana and Jess & kids. 

I know it’s boring for Ethan but I have been loving having him home. 

 

Soakin it in!

We’ve just been hanging out enjoying our time together. 

Ethan was released last night and then he and Clayton went to play basketball. 

Today we spent a lovely day at the beach.
